Former Motel Makes Way for New Development
Former Indy East Motel to be Demolished on Monday August 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.
Irvington Development Organization (IDO) and Irvington Partners, LLC, are pleased to announce that they will begin demolition of the former Indy East Motel, 5855 E. Washington St., Indianapolis.
The Irvington neighborhood had worked closely with the City of Indianapolis to close the motel after it had become a crime hot spot and nuisance property. IDO purchased the property, which has been vacant since 2009, from the Marion County Commissioners who received the property because of delinquent taxes from the previous owner.
IDO formed a partnership with Irvington Partners, LLC, a for-profit development firm, to develop the project into a new 50-unit apartment complex designed for moderate-income residents. Meyer Najem will be the general contractor, and North American Construction Company, Inc. will demolish the building and clear the site.
“The neighborhood has eagerly awaited this day. The motel had become a blight on the neighborhood. The new apartments will be a great addition and encourage future positive development in the area,” said Doug Stuart, IDO Board President. The neighborhood is planning an evening block party after the demolition commences.
Additional partners on the project include:
Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority
Marion County Commissioners
City of Indianapolis
Great Lakes Capital Fund
Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC)
First Financial Bank
ONE 10 STUDIO Architects
McKinley Development
