Boy Scout Troop 9 - 100 Yr Celebration - (March 13, 2010 06:00 PM - 10:00 PM)

100 years and counting! Before the US congress established the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 9 was chartered through the Boy Scouts that originated in England. In fact, Troop 9’s original charter in 1910 was signed by Baden Powell himself! Troop 9 then aligned themselves with the US Scouting and is in the Pioneer District of the Crossroads of America Council. Troop 9 has been continuously charted by the Irvington United Methodist Church (then, the Irvington Methodist Church) every single year since its inception! A feat rarely matched! The two organizations have been a wonderful match for each other, and to celebrate this achievement, IUMC and Troop 9 is having a 100th Year Celebration Dinner on Saturday March 13th, 2010, at 6:00pm at Fellowship Hall in Irvington United Methodist Church. This will be a chance to show your support, and learn of the rich heritage of the Boy Scout Presence in Irvington. The program and dinner will start at 6:30pm with a social gathering at 6:00pm. Did you know that Francis O. Belzer was Troop 9’s original Scoutmaster? The BSA camp located near Fall Creek on the Northeast side, as well as a Lawrence middle school just south of the camp are his namesakes. Also, a new troop logo will be unveiled, commemorative patches will be available, and a time capsule will be sealed for future scouts. Present and past Scouts, Eagles, and Scoutmasters will be present. Everyone is encouraged to join the festivities and if you know anyone who is, or was, involved in scouting, or Troop 9, we encourage you to pass this along to them to let them know. Tickets can be obtained in advance for
