You don’t immediately conjure up brand-spanking new, contemporary styled apartments when you think of the Benton House Tour of Homes in Irvington, but a model unit in the new complex will offer tour attendees a sneak preview of the soon-to-be-available apartments. Local businesses have donated items and expertise to furnish the one-bedroom apartment that will also serve as the model unit until all the apartments are leased. The volunteers and donors include Sharon Giles, Dream Designs, Audubon Road Corner Store Antiques Etcetera, Audrey’s Place, and Hampton Designs. It will be decorated in an eclectic mix of modern, vintage, and antiques – as would be fitting for an Irvington loft-style apartment.
The apartments are still under construction with the projected completion date in early October, so be prepared – the rest of the site is an active construction zone. This will be your chance to see what Irvington’s newest residence looks like as well as some of its oldest and most fabulous homes. One of those homes (though definitely on the newer side by Irvington standards) was featured in the Sunday Star. The mid-century home of Bob and Laura Stark, co-owners of our beloved Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza, will be on the tour as well.
This is the 40th annual tour, the longest consecutively running home tour in the city. For more information about the tour and to purchase tickets, go to www.thebentonhouse.org.
