Irvington Organizations & Clubs

Irvington Community Council
Founded in 1970, the Council is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides a voice to the city on Irvington issues such as public services and zoning and works to improve the community and the lives of its residents. The Council hosts the annual Irvington Halloween Festival and Summer Music Series.


Irvington Garden Club
Community minded, garden loving Irvington neighbors. The Club maintains several historic green spaces in the neighborhood and hosts the Irvington Farmers’ Market in Ellenberger Park.


Irvington Historical Society
The Irvington Historical Society society preserves and promotes the artistic traditions, heritage and archives of Irvington’s past and present. The Bona Thompson Memorial Center, where the Society is based is the only remaining building from the original Butler University campus.

Irvington Schools

George W. Julian School # 57
Named after a prominent Indiana legislator, George Washington Julian, School #57 has maintained a strong educational heritage for over 90 years.



Irvington Community School
Small, strong, and community-oriented charter elementary school for grades K-5.




Irvington Community Middle School

Irvington Community Middle School (ICMS) was established in the fall of 2010 as an important component of the Irvington Community Charter School expansion of the K-12 program. ICMS serves students in 6th-8th grades.





Irvington Preparatory Academy

IPA boasts a curriculum that is rigorous and demanding. All students are encouraged to take at least one Advanced Placement or dual-credit course during their career at IPA. The Irvington Community Charter High School is housed in the former Irvington Children’s Guardian Home.




Thomas Carr Howe Community High School
Thomas Carr Howe Community High School, located on twenty-seven (27) acres on the near east side of Indianapolis, Indiana, provides services to students of the Indianapolis Public School community. Howe is currently administered by Charter School USA.

Our Lady of Lourdes

OLL is a K-8 Catholic school focused on faith, is academically strong and grounded in community. It also offers a pre-school for 3-5 year olds.

Downey Cooperative Preschool
Located in the heart of Indianapolis’s historic Irvington district, Downey has a simple and happy philosophy: children, parents, and teachers go to school together, each learning from the other.

Irvington United Methodist Church (IUMC) Pre-school
Located at the center of the north Irvington Circle on Audubon Rd., this IUMC Pre-school has been in operation since 1988.
