Irvington Green

What We Do > Irvington Green

IDO launched Irvington Green (IG) – originally named “Irvington Green Initiative” –  in the summer of 2007 as a positive approach to encouraging people to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. Over the past 10 years, IG has:

  • Partnered with over 40 groups, organizations, and businesses.
  • Developed a teaching rain garden with Irvington Community Schools.
  • Produced a Spirit & Place event, called Skillsharing Feastival.
  • Launched a monthly, now quarterly, Green Hour grassroots engagement and networking series.

In 2016, IG took time to reflect on its successes and plan for the future. The re-envisioned IG is planning seasonal gatherings for neighbors and friends to learn and explore opportunities for sustainability efforts in the neighborhood. Topics have included recycling, composting, restoring the tree canopy, and discussing the availability of fresh local food.

To learn more and receive notifications of upcoming events, contact Patricia Waters or Katie Schlafer. Follow IG on Facebook (www.facebook.com/irvingtongreen) and Twitter (@irvingtongreen).
